Team Leadership and Human Relations

Building Trust, Developing People, Managing Performance, and Creating Effective Teams

Team Leadership and Human Relations is a 20-lesson applied course examining how leaders build, guide, support, and develop groups of people. The course moves beyond individual leadership character and focuses on the relationships, expectations, communication structures, and workplace conditions that shape team performance. Students learn that effective team leadership requires more than motivation. Leaders must understand individual strengths, establish clear roles, provide appropriate tools, communicate expectations, address performance concerns, manage conflict, recognize contributions, and create conditions in which people can raise concerns without unnecessary fear or humiliation. The course examines active listening, interpersonal communication, psychological safety, role clarity, delegation, motivation, coaching, mentoring, employee development, performance management, conflict resolution, inclusion, team culture, and accountability. Students also examine the dangers of favoritism, unclear authority, inconsistent standards, excessive control, neglect, groupthink, destructive competition, workplace isolation, and leadership avoidance.
