This advanced twenty-lesson course focuses on disputes affecting neighborhoods, municipalities, schools, public agencies, businesses, nonprofits, advocacy groups, faith communities, service providers, and residents. Students examine how to build legitimate public processes amid distrust, unequal influence, historical grievances, competing definitions of safety and fairness, limited resources, public pressure, and political disagreement. The course emphasizes inclusive participation, multi-party negotiation, joint fact-finding, community mediation, public communication, and durable implementation.
